Playdate with a Purpose

Thank you to my friend Sara who started the Playdate with a Purpose (PWAP) idea in Atlanta. I borrowed her concept to share with my MOM Group. Today, we held our first PWAP at my house entitled Support the Soldiers. The kids colored patriotic pictures and moms donated tons of goodies for the unit of soldiers we selected. Our unit is largely from Texas and contains about half women. They are currently stationed in Afghanistan and are scheduled to leave next summer.

I am so proud of the amazing women in my group! We collected a ton of goodies including: 12 books, 33 magazines, 6 tuna packs, 2 popcorn packs, 2 boxes of mints, 2 boxes of cereal, 3 drink flavoring packs, 2 pretzel packs, 25 Ghirardelli chocolates, 1 bag coffee, 1 set chocolate coffee spoons, 2 deodorants, 6 toothpastes, 2 toothbrushes, 1 mouthwash, 4 soaps, 2 tampon boxes, 3 razors, 1 set of stationary, 3 kids birthday cards, 2 kids sunglasses, and 5 kids toys. We'll also send the drawings from our kids and a note of thanks to the men and women in our unit. Way to go you awesome MOM Group moms!!!

Here are a few pictures from the playdate today. You can tell we have fun when we get together!

EIEIO

Sophie has been singing Old MacDonald with me, or at least the 'eieio' part so it was appropriate that we go to a local farm today with our friends to check out some animals. We saw small animals first like a lizard, hedgehog, bunny, ferret, bird, tortoise, etc. Sophie was not interested in the small animals at all! I'm not sure if she was really afraid or just not interested. She kept pointing at the cats and dogs that were loose in the barn. Then we went outside to check out the larger animals and she LOVED it! There were pigs, which she kept grunting at and pointing and announcing 'pig!' to make sure I saw them. She liked the goats and wanted to feed them bread, but all their loud grunting made her a little nervous to get too close. Then there was the horse and pony, which Sophie really loved. She kept saying 'pony! pony!' and I could hardly get her to leave. She even petted the big horse, which surprised me. :) Brave and curious little girl.... Here are a few pics.

Bored with the small animals....
